Anne-Sophie Pagé

Trustee

Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) - Massey University, Wildlife Veterinarian.

Dr Anne-Sophie Pagé is a wildlife and mixed animal domestic veterinarian. She has a clear understanding of the veterinary profession and its importance in society, and a sense of responsibility to utilise her skillset to benefit species and ecosystems.

Her interests lie in wildlife population health, emerging threats, disease investigation, gross pathology and histology, avian medicine and surgery, threatened species recovery, conservation management, oiled wildlife response, and marine mammal strandings. She has worked in the field with wildlife in Africa, Argentina, Tasmania, New Zealand and the Sub-Antarctic Islands.

At present she is completing a three year residency at Massey University and Wildbase Hospital on anatomical pathology, to become American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) board certified and a specialist in wildlife pathology. In conjunction, her masters thesis will facilitate skills in conducting wildlife mortality assessments of declining species (particularly seabirds and marine mammals), to influence conservation management and improve survival rates.

Annie has a deep aroha for Kaikōura and the diverse species that call it home. With a passion for facilitating solutions to environmental issues, she joined the Board to contribute in the implementation of the Kaikōura Wildlife Hospital centre.

“There are two priorities in my life. The first is to foster emotional connections between individuals and the environment, in the hope of developing a holistic sense of kaitiakitanga amongst us all in the face of climate change. The second is to utilise my knowledge as a vet to assist in mitigating New Zealand’s biodiversity crisis.”
