The Kaikōura Wildlife Centre Trust and Kaikōura Wildlife Centre Limited are a charitable trust and non-profit company established to develop and implement the Kaikōura Wildlife Hospital & Conservation Centre.

The Trust is managing the Kaikōura Wildlife Hospital & Conservation Centre project, to fundraise for construction of the wildlife centre and progress to operational capability. The Trust is excited to form partnerships with pivotal funders and sponsors, to be part of our conservation journey and support this mahi for our manu.

1) To project manage the Kaikōura Wildlife Hospital & Conservation Centre vision, to implement a multi-disciplinary wildlife centre in Kaikōura.

2) To create a stronghold for wildlife rehabilitation in the upper east coast of the South Island/Te Waipounamu, addressing an unfulfilled need and acting as a vital conservation tool.

3) To provide professional wildlife care in a biodiversity hotspot, facilitating a critical environmental and community service.

1) To address biodiversity needs in the Kaikōura/Te Tai o Marokura region, by developing a wildlife hospital and conservation centre to enable the preservation of at-risk taonga species.

2) To aid in the recovery of native wildlife through rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation, research, training, and education programmes.

3) To enable our community to protect, preserve and enhance our region’s natural environment for the next generation.

Support the Trust’s work to progress an exciting conservation project in a biodiversity hotspot, focused on developing a purpose-built wildlife hospital and conservation centre to aid threatened wildlife, ensuring the wider environment and community can thrive.

As a Trustee you will join the Board to facilitate a complex and ambitious conservation project. You will work alongside other Trustees to progress project implementation.

You will build and maintain productive working relationships with the wider community, mana whenua and stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities amongst Trustees include comms, planning, project coordination, managing stakeholder relationships, budgeting and reporting.

Key requirements:

• A clear understanding of the Trust’s mission and aims

• Environmental, animal welfare or governance background

• An active Board member to progress the project

• Participation in Board meetings and AGMs (in person or via Zoom)

• Ability to visit Kaikōura periodically (if required)

• Participation in community events and fundraisers (dependent on location)

• A strong advocate to drive engagement, participation and investment

• Maintaining relationships with partners and funders

• Promotion of the Trust’s work via networking and marketing opportunities

• Previous experience on charity boards

• Trust management experience

• Sustainability, conservation, marine sciences, or veterinary background

• Knowledge of native fauna, wildlife rehabilitation or captive management is beneficial

• Business and project management skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A friendly people person and team player

• A natural leader who is enthusiastic and motivated

• Ability to commit to the Trust’s long-term vision
